The Mission to Reset Philanthropy

Dear JustFund Community,

At JustFund, we understand the systemic problems in philanthropy that prevent money from moving to the chronically underfunded— like the $141.95 billion in assets sitting untouched in Donor Advised Funds, or the disparities in distribution causing big nonprofits to get bigger, and small nonprofits to get smaller. As I stated in my latest blog, “If we are going to truly center equity in our giving, we must first understand where the philanthropic system is breaking down and what solutions are available.”

That’s why we’re so proud of our friends at Liberated Capital, the Decolonizing Wealth Project‘s donor community and funding vehicle focused on supporting Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, whose #Case4Reparations initiative is supporting advocacy efforts to advance reparations in the United States. Liberated Capital has redistributed $1.7 million to their inaugural cohort of 23 grantees, all of whom are receiving funding for local, regional, and national movement-building and advocacy efforts.

We’re inspired by Liberated Capital’s call to amplify conversations and campaigns around reparations where wealth— money or land— can be redistributed by institutions and/or governments to Black and Native American communities in the United States. Learn more about the #Case4Reparations.
